Faceless
Drawing of Erasure
I think a lot of different meanings can be drawn out from this piece:
- If you remove a celebrities name and face what are you left with? Is the viewer interested in finding out.
- The act of sanding down an actors face and name from magazine covers and press photos can be viewed as aggressive. Does this represent anger towards our celebrity obsessed media?
- When their faces are removed, the appearance of these celebrities is startlingly similar. Is the piece saying that Hollywood strives for some absurd homogenized ideal? or by removing their faces is it saying that aside from their spot in the public eye, which was forced on them by media /society, these celebrities are just people like everyone else.
