Keepsake (Final)
This my final project for the Contemporary Drawing Practices class.
This piece was about recreating memories and placing these scenes within a memento or keepsake. An attempt at preserving memories. Each scene is different but none are specific or deeply personal to me. From my standpoint, I tried to recreate general experiences that most people have. That is why so many of them are so mundane in terms of content. There is no present narrative that continues throughout these pieces and they can be presented as a group or individually. Some are interactive, others are only meant to be looked at.
The scenes:
1. The first scene is called "Sharp." This jar contains broken glass, razorblades, and splintered wood. This scene is much more sensory than the others and is meant to bring to mind the feeling of sharp objects. There is a figure made of wood present in the jar and the viewer is encouraged to shake the jar and either immerse the figure in the blades or try to keep them out of harms way.
2. Dirt. Originally imagined as a park-scene, this scene was simplified to simply represent dirt; its feeling and its smell. The viewer may open the jar, touch and feel the dirt. Made with actual dirt.
3. Driving scene. Self- explanatory. Do not interact.
4. Immersion. This scene features a paper-doll surrounded by comic-books, videogames and cartoons.
5. Dining Room.
6. Beach. Made with actual sand.
7. Crowd. This scene is about people and how often they can stand out or blend in. Each nondescript wooden person has a feature that stands out somewhat. A small detail that sets them apart from their peers.
8. Living Room. A family sits an watches t.v.
9, 10, 11 12. Pencil, Clean, Hair, Scent.
